The band's new record will be released on 4th October, and will set some new sustainability standards when it drops, as shown in a behind-the-scenes video with a difference.

The video shows how the vinyl copies of the album are being made using recycled plastic, gathered from a river in Guatemala.

The band announced their new album on Instagram with a video which shows them passing the clear vinyl version of it from one band member to the other. Lead singer Chris Martin then holds up the record as the words on screen say: 'THE LP IS MADE FROM 100% RECYCLED PLASTiC BOTTLES'. (sic)

What is the vinyl made from?

Coldplay have revealed that the vinyl for their new album will be made from recycled plastic bottles. In press release it was revealed that each copy will be made from nine recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste.

It went on to explain: 'This will prevent the manufacture of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic, and provide an 85% reduction in manufacturing process CO2 emissions/kg compared to traditional 140g vinyl.'
