Most popular names and breeds revealed in The Dogs Trust biggest-ever survey
Who’s top dog? 🐾
Last updated 26th Aug 2025
The results of the biggest ever survey of dog owners are in – and Labradors are once again top of the pups as the nation’s favourite pooch. Teddy and Poppy are also the UK’s most popular male and female names for our four-legged fur-iends.
The Dogs Trust National Dog Survey looked at the habits of more than 340,000 dogs and owners across the UK, with Labradors having barked their way to the top spot since 2016.
Meanwhile, enjoying a surprise surge in popularity, Dachshunds are on the rise and sniffing out a place in the top 10 most popular puppies for the first time. We’re also a nation of crossbreed lovers, with 41% of dogs in the UK being a type of crossbreed. After ‘supermutts’ or unknown mixes, Cockapoos, Cavapoos and Lurchers are the most pup-ular.
So, whilst Teddy and Poppy might be the most popular male and female dog names – it seems Milo and Luna are also getting plenty of paw-sitive name recognition, coming in second.
Most popular dog names:
1) Poppy
2) Teddy
3) Luna
4) Milo
5) Bella
6) Alfie
7) Daisy
8) Mabel
9) Willow
10) Reggie
How long are we spending with our dogs?
It seems we’re filling our days with two hours and 12 minutes of daily doggy doings such as walking, grooming and feeding – that’s more than 15 hours a week spent looking after our pooches. The average dog owner walks their pet for over an hour each day – proving that when it comes to man’s best friend, we’re happy to go the extra mile (and a few extra paw prints).
