The Chase viewers 'scream at TV' as contestant takes -£17,000 offer

It was a show record!

ITV/STV gameshow The Chase has been a fan favourite since it first started back in 2009, airing every afternoon with loveable host Bradley Walsh.

However, Wednesday (20th November) night's episode left loyal fans shouting at their TV screens in anger, as one contestant took the lowest offer in the show's entire history at -£17,000.

The episode saw Chetan, Nicky, Kim and Jason take on The Vixen, and whilst Kim and Jason had accumulated a huge £76,000 during the money cash rounds, mainly thanks to Kim taking the higher offer of £70,000, it was Nicky and Chetan who decided to take the lower offers.

After Nicky took an offer of -£5,000, 25-year-old salesman Chetan was up last in the cash builder rounds, and after seeing a cool £75,000 on the table already with all three of his team mates safe, he chose to take the lower offer. He told Bradley: "Probably not going to be the most popular choice but I do think there is strength in numbers so I'm going to go for the -17."

Despite The Vixen telling Chetan it was the 'right thing to do', viewers watching the show took to social media to vent their frustration and anger.

One wrote: 'What am I watching, imagine taking the minus £17,000 offer on the chase …….the lowest offer ever. I wouldn’t be able to walk the streets without being ashamed of myself.' (sic)

Another wrote: 'I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed on the chase. Someone taking -£17,000 . Horrific sportsmanship no words for it. #thechase'. (sic)

Somebody else wrote: 'I cannot believe he took a -£17,000 on the chase????? I’m absolutely disgusted. Kim deserves better!!!! #thechase'. (sic)

However, others were more supportive of Chetan's 'clever' decision, saying he played a very good game.

One added: 'Well played Chetan - good tactics and decent final contribution', with another writing: 'What a fantastic team tonight'. (sic)

After beating The Vixen with a score of 21 to 18, and with Cheatan answering a number of questions in the final chase, it turned out to be the best decision, as the group won £50,000 between them, taking home £12,500 each.
