A man has been found guilty of shooting and killing a teenager in Birmingham before fleeing the country.

Seeraj Ayub, 24, who was in a Mercedes, followed Ali Riyan and a friend, who were riding an e-bike, down Alderson Road in Washwood Heath at around 10:15pm on 19 October 2024.

Ayub shot at them from the back seat of the car before the pair tried to get away. The car followed and Ayub shot again, this time hitting Ali.

A member of the public found him and called emergency services. He died in hospital two days later.

Later that evening, Ayub fled the country. However, Ayub returned to the UK via ferry from Dublin on 28 January this year, where he was arrested on his arrival.

After refusing to comment during interview, he was charged with murder.

Yesterday, after previously pleading not guilty, Ayub of Alexander Road, Birmingham, was found guilty of murder by the jury.

Senior Investigating Officer Jenny Birch, from the Homicide team, said: "I hope this verdict brings some peace to Ali's family.

"Our team worked tirelessly on this case and I am pleased we have been able to secure justice for Ali and his family”

Ayub will be sentenced later this year.
