Independent charity Crimestoppers is today announcing a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the tragic death of a newborn baby boy found in the Wyrley and Essington Canal at Rough Wood Country Park, near Willenhall, Walsall, in May 2021.
West Midlands Police are continuing to treat the death as murder, and the case remains open. Despite extensive investigations and community appeals, the identity of the baby’s mother is still unknown.
Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, from West Midlands Police, said:
"This baby boy deserves justice. His short life and tragic death must not be forgotten.
“We are determined to find answers, and with the public’s help, we believe we can.
“We’ll always act upon any new information provided to us. Please, if you have any information get in touch. You can remain anonymous by giving information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Alan Edwards, West Midlands Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, said:
“This is a particularly sad and tragic case that has deeply affected the local community.
"We urgently need information that can help bring justice for this little boy and support for his mother.
"We believe someone out there knows something and we want to encourage them to come forward anonymously.
"The £10,000 reward is offered to prompt anyone with information to speak up, no matter how small the detail.”
Crimestoppers, which is independent of the police, is supporting this investigation by offering a reward for information they exclusively receive that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of the newborn baby boy.
