Three teens sentenced for murdering Reuben Higgins in Solihull vape shop stabbing
Three teenagers have been sentenced for stabbing Reuben Higgins, 17, to death in a vape shop in Solihull.
Three teenagers have today been sentenced for murder after attacking a fellow teen in Solihull last October.
Abdurrahman Summers, 18, and two 16-year-old boys murdered Reuben Higgins, 17, in on Station Road in Marston Green.
Reuben was near the Esso petrol station with friends when they were approached by a group of four teenagers, including the three defendants.
It was here a knife was brandished and Reuben and his friends fled in separate directions.
Attempting to get away, Reuben ran into a nearby vape shop and tried to block the door. He shouted to the shopkeeper that the group was trying to kill him.
The teenager was soon overpowered and his four pursuers gained entry before stabbing him in the chest, arm, and leg. The attack lasted for around 10 seconds and Reuben died at the scene.
The group fled, but one of the 16-year-olds - who was 15 at the time - returned to the shop to get his mobile back having dropped it in the attack.
Summers and the two 16-year-olds were arrested the next month. The fourth person fled the country and is still wanted by police.
Reuben's family paid tribute to their son, saying: "No sentence is going to provide justice for the evil that was committed against Reuben.
"Reuben was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin, who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Life will never be the same without him.
"We would like to thank the jury, the prosecution and the homicide team from West Midlands Police for all their efforts and work in bringing justice for Reuben.”
One of the 16-year-olds has been sentenced to 17 years and the other to 15.
Abdurrahman Summers has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 19 years.
