Essex officer dies on duty while responding to incident on A12

He's being described as a "dedicated professional" who lost his life while protecting and serving the public.

An Essex Police officer has died in the line of duty following a crash on the A12 near Ingatestone.

The incident occurred at around 12.25pm on Wednesday, 19th November, as the officer was responding on a motorbike to an emergency.

At this stage, police do not believe any other vehicle was involved. Tragically, the officer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A12 was closed for several hours to allow specialist teams to investigate and respond to the incident.

Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington paid tribute to the officer, describing him as a "dedicated professional" who lost his life while protecting and serving the public.

“My thoughts and prayers, and those of the entire Essex Police family, are with the officer’s family and friends,” Chief Constable Harrington said.

“I want to pay tribute to our professional and courageous colleague. He was a dedicated professional who died doing his job – protecting and serving the people of Essex. I will always be grateful for his service.

“We are supporting the officer’s colleagues and his family at this extremely difficult time.”

The circumstances of the collision are being investigated by experienced officers, and the public has been asked not to speculate about what happened.

Chief Constable Harrington also thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation during the road closure and response efforts.
