The Met Office has issued a series of new weather warnings as the country continues to feel the after effects of Storm Eowyn.

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are in place for much of the south of the country from Sunday (January 26th) until Tuesday (January 28th).

Gusts of over 80 miles per hour have already been recorded in the south west of England, reaching 82mph in Predannack in south Cornwall on Sunday morning.

Residents in the South West have also been left without power, with 6,000 properties across Devon and Cornwall being left with no electricity due to the strong winds.

It comes as a new weather front is due to hit the South West of the UK before making its way northeast towards England and Wales during the course of Sunday.

According to meteorologists, areas which were particularly hit by Storm Eowyn will "generally fair a little bit better", but snow is set to fall across hills and higher ground in Scotland over the next few days.

The weather front is believed to be the remnants of Storm Herminia, which particularly hit Spain hard, with winds continuing to remain strong.

It comes after a man died after a tree fell on his car in the early hours of Friday morning in Mauchline in East Ayrshire, according to Police Scotland.

Speaking on the weather front, Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: "It's also going to be wet and windy over the next few days in southern parts of the UK in particular.

"In most parts of the UK we're going to have some very wet and at times also very windy weather over today and Monday.

"But from Tuesday onwards, I'm expecting it generally to stay fairly changeable, but some showers at times and quite windy, but not as disruptive as it has been - I think overall, probably warnings are less likely from Tuesday onwards.

"Certainly tonight in the south east of the UK, we could see some briefly very strong winds, and we could also see some very strong winds across Cornwall and Devon tomorrow in particular".
