Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Southampton
Police were called to an incident in the Bevois Valley area of the city earlier today
A man has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of three people in Southampton.
Hampshire Police were called to reports of threats being made with a knife in the Bevois Valley area of the city earlier today (Sunday 3rd August 2025).
No one was seriously hurt.
A man in his 40s, from the Bitterne area of Southampton, was detained at the scene and has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said:
"At 12.48pm this afternoon (Sunday, August 3) police were called to Empress Road after it was reported a man was threatening people with a knife.
"Three people sustained injuries – none are thought to be seriously injured.
"Officers have begun an investigation and would like to speak to anyone who saw or recorded what happened.
"The man is described as: South Asian, aged in his 40s, around 5ft 11ins and with black hair and a beard. He was wearing a red shirt and a navy blue jacket.
"We know there were a lot of people in the area at this time and we want to hear from anyone who can help with our enquiries. Did you witness the incident or do you have any footage of what happened; whether it’s CCTV, phone or dashcam? Did you see anyone matching this description in the Southampton area today acting suspiciously or in a way that caused you concern?
"We are in the early phases of the investigation which will seek to establish exactly what took place this afternoon. We do not believe there is any wider risk to the community. "
