The body of a British man has been discovered on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Spain's Guardia Civil confirmed that the body of a man had been recovered in a mountainous area of the island.

This is the second body to be found in the area in recent days, following the discovery a British woman's body in the same area earlier in the week.

Emergency services had been looking for the pair, who were believed to be a couple, after severe storms and flooding hit the island during the week.

Rescue teams has been looking in the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountain range, believing that the British tourists got into difficulty during flash floods.

In a statement, the Guardia Civil said: "We have found the body of a young man which, pending judicial identification, would correspond to the young man who disappeared last Tuesday while doing the Torrent de Pareis walk."

Ten other people hiking through the UNESCO World Heritage Site were also rescued from the canyon after the surprise storm, with authorities reporting that two people had been swept away.

Officers have yet to formally identify and name the British victims.
