Liverpool legend Joey Jones has died at the age of 70.

Former Liverpool player John Aldridge led tributes, calling him "an inspirational full back who gave his heart" in a post on social media site X.

Jones won two European Cups with Liverpool in the 1970s, and became the first Welsh player to receive a European Cup winners medal.

The left-back became synonymous with a famous banner held up during their 1977 final win over Borussia Monchengladbach which read: "Joes Ate The Frogs Legs, Made The Swiss Roll, Now He's Munching Gladbach".

Jones returned to his boyhood club, Wrexham, when he left Liverpool in 1978, and spent four years with them before joining Chelsea.

Wrexham podcast Fearless in Devotion wrote on X: "A giant on the pitch, a gentleman off it. The football world has lost a true legend".
