Huge fire causes significant damage at southwest London flats

Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a fire on Maysoule Road in Battersea which has caused a huge amount of damage.

Firefighters tackled the blaze at a five storey residential building, where a significant amount of the building and the roof were destroyed by the fire.

Two of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used as water towers to help extinguish the fire from height. The Brigade's drone team also attended, providing the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the fire.

Around 150 people were evacuated from the building by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus, no injuries have been reported.

The Brigade took the first of 42 calls at 1908 and mobilised crews from Battersea, Wandsworth, Fulham, Clapham and other surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control at 2301.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Brigade's Fire Investigation Team.

Firefighters will remain at the scene for several hours to continue dampening down the building.
