The Victorian government cited projected costs ballooning to an estimated $6 billion to $7 billion, far exceeding the initial $2.6 billion budget.

How does Glasgow 2026 differ from the 2014 Games?
The Commonwealth Games in 2026 will look different to what the city saw in 2014.

In 2014, the Games had partial public funding to build important infrastructure including the Athlete's Village in Dalmarnock, featuring 700 homes, the Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
For the 2026 Games, no public money is being used to deliver the event and therefore, existing venues and infrastructure is being used.

The overall event is going to be smaller in quantity - but organisers are promising that it will not impact on quality.
