A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a racially aggravated attack on a family in their home in Grangetown.

The incident happened on Thursday (16 October) in Birchington Avenue, when a group threw stones and fireworks at the house and then attacked police upon their arrival.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Stockdale, Head of Local Policing, said: “Following swift investigation by officers, a suspect was identified and arrested this afternoon in connection with the appalling attack on an innocent family in Grangetown.

“I hope this sends a clear message that Cleveland Police will not tolerate any form of Hate or violence in our communities.

“The harm and distress caused to the family who had their home targeted in an act of mindless violence is unforgiveable and we will continue to pursue all those involved and bring them to justice”.
