Arsenal have won the UEFA Women's Champion League after a 1-0 final victory over Barcelona in Lisbon.

The winning goal from Stina Blackstenius in the second half of the game marked Arsenal's first Women's Champions League title in 18 years.

The Gunners remain the only English side to have lifted the Women's Champions League trophy, having also done it 18 years ago as part of their quadruple-winning season in 2007.

Arsenal had a first-half opener disallowed, but fended off attacks from the Liga F champions before Renee Slegers introduced Blackstenius and England forward, Beth Mead.

The pair combined in the 74th minute at the home of Sporting Lisbon to bring home the victory.

Renee Slegers replaced Jonas Eidevall as manager on an interim basis back in October before being appointed on a permanent basis in January.

This victory means she is the first Dutch manager to win the Women's Champions League.

Ian Wright, former Arsenal striker, believes Arsenal deserve a parade for winning the Women's Champion League after the "embarrassment" of the men's side failing to win any silverware.

The men's side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, before losing out to Paris St Germain and are set to confirm second place in the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Mr Wright on TNT Sports said: "It's saved the club.

"The embarrassment of not winning anything this season when we've played so well with the men.

"The ladies have saved the club.

"We've got something to celebrate.

"They need a parade.

"They've beaten Barcelona in the Champions League.

"No-one gave them a chance - they average four goals a game.

"They deserve all the accolades they're getting because this is a magnificent achievement."
