14 year old boy charged with murder of 12 year old in Birmingham

A 14 year old boy has been charged with the murder of a 12 year old in Birmingham.

Leo Ross was attacked as he walked home from school near Scribers Lane in the Hall Green area on Tuesday 21st January 2025.

The 12 year old was found injured at around 3.40pm - and sadly died in hospital at around 7.30pm.

A vigil is being held in Leo's memory tomorrow.

West Midlands Police say their specialist officers are continuing to support his family and have informed them of the latest developments.

Tribute from Leo's family

Leo’s family said: "We want everyone to know what an amazing, kind, loving boy Leo was.

"Not only has Leo’s life been taken, all of our lives have as well.

"Leo will be truly missed by all of us. He was loved so much by everyone.

"The family want to thank the school, the police and everyone involved in the investigation and supporting us all through this horrific time."

Charge details

The 14 year old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has been remanded into custody to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday having been charged this afternoon (Saturday 25th January 2025) with Leo’s murder and possession of a bladed article.

As a result of a thorough investigation and review of all available evidence, police have also charged the 14-year-old boy with six additional assaults. None of these alleged offences involved the use of a knife.

All of the victims of those offences have been notified and are being supported by West Midlands Police officers.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The tragic death of Leo has had a devastating impact on his family, friends, school and the wider community.

"Our officers continue to have a high-profile presence in the area to offer support and reassurance.

"The investigation into Leo’s death continues and we are still appealing for anyone with information."
