Get to know Cool FM's Paulo Ross
You can listen to Paulo on Cool Breakfast, weekdays from 6am 📻
Paulo Ross first joined the breakfast team back in 2014, completing the trio we now know as Pete, Paulo and Rebecca in the morning.
Alongside the Cool Breakfast show, Paulo can be heard on the morning sports bulletins and online with our social media team. If it’s trending, Paulo is all over it!
He's known as Mr Adventure - he's either trekking the Mournes or swimming in the sea!
We've put some of your listener questions to Paulo so you can get to know him a little bit more...
When is Paulo’s birthday?
17th June 1990
Where is Paulo from?
Ardglass, Co.Down
What school/university did you go to and what did you study?
Liverpool John Moores University, studied Geography
Two truths & a lie
Can you guess (answers revealed at the end)
- In P4 I appeared on School Around The Corner and played the tin whistle
- I’ve climbed Slieve Donard over 100 times
- My mum went to the same school as Cristiano Ronaldo
Does Paulo have any pets?
“I’m a real animal-lover, always grown up with pets and dogs at home. Couldn’t imagine life without one.
“I have a Poodle called Olly, he’s a great pup. He was born not far from Anfield in Liverpool, being the big Liverpool fan that I am, I wanted to name him Klopp but wasn’t allowed to. I still think that would have been a great name.
Olly’s a great companion when I can’t persuade friends along to some weekend Mournes hikes. When we walk Ormeau Park kids think he’s the real “Waffle” from the CBBC’s kids show.
What’s Paulo’s death row meal?
Poached eggs, avocado, Ballymaloe relish, halloumi cheese
How did Paulo get into radio?
“Back in my student university days I was part of an internet radio station. When all my flatmates were out partying, I was too busy (being a radio geek) in my room. We can’t have been broadcasting to more than 10 people but you’ve got to start somewhere.”
“After graduating from John Moores and a brief stint on Blast 106 and Belfast Community Radio, I got my first proper radio gig at the age of 21 on Citybeat.”
Who is Paulo’s favourite musician and why?
“Dermot Kennedy - he’s insanely talented, a lyrical genius with one of the best voices in music at the minute. Some of my favourite all time songs are from his ‘Without Fear’ album.“
What has been Paulo’s all-time favourite gig?
“I was lucky enough to grow up in the Oxegen generation. It was like Ireland’s own version of Glastonbury, the line-up was incredible. Some of the biggest artists in the world used to fly into Punestown every summer. My first music festival was in 2008 - The Verve, Amy Winehouse, REM, The Kooks, Kings of Leon all played that year.”
Paulo's lie was the 3rd one – his mum and Ronaldo are both ‘Madeirans’ and from Madeira Portugal. She grew up not far on the same island from the legendary Manchester United footballer.
