Cool Saturday Show host marks milestone with biggest ever audience

This week saw the release of the latest RAJAR listening figures and in NI – radio as medium has never been stronger. Close to 1.5 million people in the region say they listen to the radio at some point each week – that means 93% of NI’s population are tuning into their favourite stations!

And speaking of favourite stations - it’s Bauer Media’s Northern Ireland station’s that are pulling even further ahead with record audiences – surpassing 800,000 listeners for the first time.

And fuelling these record figures is Cool FM – by far the biggest station in the country, it is the only radio station with over half a million listeners - 527,000 people tune into Cool each week.

The Cool Saturday Show hosted by Stuart Robinson and Katharine Walker is now reaching its biggest audience of 147,000 every Saturday morning, making it the Number 1 weekend radio show anywhere on Northern Ireland’s airwaves!

This marks a milestone moment for Stuart who’s first radio show in Northern Ireland was as a teenager in 1995, he joined Cool FM in 2010 and this will now be a personal career milestone by achieving his biggest ever audience - nearly 30 years after first turning on a microphone!

Stuart said “we are so grateful for those listeners who chose to spend their Saturday with us, we never take it for granted and to be presenting radio for as long as I have and getting record audience figures is very humbling indeed”.

Commenting on the record figures Kat said I’d like to thank the nearly 150,000 people who put up with Stuart and his grumpiness every weekend, the solidarity and support you show for me is very much appreciated”.

Meanwhile Stuart pointed out that the figures had gone up since the show line-up changed “We all know Deputy Dave left the show earlier this year to become a Dad, it’s probably no coincidence that the listening has increased since he has been away”.

Deputy Dave is staying silent on a potential Cool Saturday Show return. For nearly 10 years now, Cool FM listeners have been treated to a variety of banter, sarcasm, phone ins, competitions and shoutouts to kickstart their weekend,
