It’s bad news for weather host Barra Best who’s been locked in a friendly feud with Stuart Robinson for years – commenting on social media yesterday Barra suggested the Cool FM host should ‘retire and hang up his headphones’ but Robinson was quick to hit back, saying “the new radio figures are about to be announced, let’s see what they say”.

According to RAJAR who provide the figures, the ‘Cool Saturday Show’ with Stuart and Kat Walker is once again Northern Ireland’s biggest weekend radio show and has extended its lead further. The duo are celebrating surpassing their previous record set earlier this year and now have 179,000 people tuning in every Saturday morning.

Stuart known for his outlandish remarks, sarcasm, and tendency to complain about nearly anything is kept in check by the cool-headed Kat who keeps him in his place – together they’ve become the ‘go to’ weekend radio show for listeners searching for weekend chat, music and competitions. Stuart Robinson has been on Cool FM since 2010 with ex- Miss NI Kat joining the lineup in 2019.

Commenting on the record figures Kat said I’d like to thank the thousands of people who put up with Stuart and his grumpiness every weekend, the solidarity and support you show for me is very much appreciated but seriously, we are so grateful for those listeners who chose to spend their Saturday with us, we never take it for granted and are so grateful”.

Stuart added “poor wee Barra can’t catch a break, he will be livid that I’m reaching a record audience - something he certainly didn’t forecast. I’ll ‘hang up the headphones’ whenever Barra organises a rain free summer in Northern Ireland!”.

The latest data also shows Cool FM is now the Number 1 radio station in Northern Ireland on all measurables for the first time since launching in 1990. The figures show that 538,000 listeners tune into Cool FM for a record 5.1million hours each week.
