The Republic have moved up to second in World Cup qualifying Group A after thrashing Georgia 9-0 last night (Monday) in Gori.

The win means they are a point clear of Finland - eight points adrift of leaders Sweden, but with a game in hand.

Arsenal's Katie McCabe (below) grabbed a hat-trick in the rout while Louise Quinn scored twice.

Niamh Fahey, Megan Connolly, Abbie Larkin and Denise O'Sullivan completed the scoring.

When the two sides met in November, the Republic won 11-0 - their highest-ever goal-scoring tally.

The Republic have two qualifiers left, with Finland visiting Dublin on September 1.

A win then for Vera Pauw's side will see them secure a play-off spot - and the chance to become the first Republic women's team to qualify for a major tournament.
