Aaron Burns firmly believes “it’s Coleraine’s time” and is predicting a title-winning season ahead for the Bannsiders.
Speaking as a guest on this week’s BetMcLean Football Show, NOW available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page, the 26-year-old forward says Oran Kearney’s side now have options all over the pitch.
"There's that expectation to win every game,” he says. “We are one of the title favourites, if not the favourite right now. That's not putting pressure on anybody because when you're up there, you have to deal with pressure.”
Burns who also reveals he is hoping to be fit for Monday night’s big game with champions Crusaders at Seaview, said they have set their sights high this year.
"Over the last number of years it's maybe been acceptable to lose a game, to finish second or third,” he said.
“That's not acceptable any more. We're aiming to win this league and a trophy, so boys have to quickly get to grips with that."
And, with only a handful of games played, he declares Coleraine could be the dominant force in the local game for a number of years to come.
“I just think that there comes a stage in the lifespan of a team that they're ready to win the league and dominate for 2 or 3 years and I think it's Coleraine's time,” he said.
Burns also gives an insight into how Kearney has prepared them for the new season.
He is joined on this week’s show, in association with NIFL, by Darren Mullen, manager of Danske Bank Premiership new boys, Darren Mullen.
Mullen reveals that the club had “to change our whole mentality” going into the Premiership.
And he says “We are working hard to stay."
