Ballymena captain Jim Ervin believes David Jeffrey has assembled a side capable of winning a Danske Bank Premiership league title.

“Why not? David, since he joined the club, he’s had his sights set,” he said.

“It wasn't a one-year, but a two, three, four year plan. It's going to take him time to build a squad that he thinks can challenge."

Ervin was speaking as a guest on our latest BetMcLean show, in association with NIFL, now available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page (see below).

Ballymena have had a flying start to the new season – unbeaten in their first three games.

Jeffrey told Downtown & Cool FM recently that he had not only assembled a squad featuring good players but also “good people”.

He said the players had to be able to fit in with the style of play at the Showgrounds.

On the expectations for the season ahead, Ervin said there was no chance the team would take anything for granted.

“You can’t look too far ahead in football because that’s when you let your guard down, and that’s where you end up with egg on your face,” he said. “But what we have this year is a massive squad where we can compete on all fronts."
