Warren Feeney has issued a rallying cry to his Ards side as they push for survival in top-flight football.

The former Northern Ireland international took over the Danske Bank Premiership strugglers just two weeks ago with a single objective ‘avoid the drop’.

Feeney says the players simply have to give their all for the shirt and ‘get some fire in their belly’.

“The one thing I want is energy – I hate players going through the motions,” he said

“Listen everyone makes mistakes – I said that to them – I said you’ve got to give yourselves a chance.

“I said to them you can’t keep doing what your doing – losing goals and accepting it.

“I said there’s got to be a little bit of fire in your belly until the end of the season.”

Feeney was speaking as a guest on our latest BetMcLean Show (in partnership with NIFL), now available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page (see link below) and to download as a podcast.

Also guesting this week is Glentoran striker, Darren Murray.

Feeney, who has managed Linfield and League Two side, Newport County, says he is relishing the challenge to keep Ards up.

“I do not shy away from a challenge – football has been my life – I know no different,” he says.

“I spoke to the chairman I spoke to Warren Patton and said this is where we are – and they said you won’t want to be there if we go down.

“And I said let’s not talk about that – I said you don’t’ know what I want – if there’s a challenge there I’ll like it."
