Down have lost to Donegal in the Ulster Senior Championship preliminary round opener.

The 2018 and 2019 provincial champions eased through to quarter-final, with a 2-25 to 1-12 victory at Pairc Esler.

They now meet Derry.

Donegal were in control for much of the game although Down's Barry O'Hagan (pictured) was impressive with four impressive scores just before the water break.

In the end the visitors were just too strong and they deservedly progressed.

There was one significant worry for Donegal manager Declan Bonner, though, after captain Michael Murphy was forced off due to the recurrence of a hamstring injury.
