Ulster captain Henderson misses out on Lions selection for 2nd time

Iain Henderson has not been selected in Warren Gatland's British and Irish Lions squad for the second test with South Africa.

The Head Coach did make 3 changes though, as they aim to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Ireland's Conor Murray starts in place of Ali Price at scrum-half. In the front row, Mako Vunipola replaces Rory Sutherland, and Chris Harris comes in at outside center for Elliot Daly. Among the replacements, Taulupe Faletau is the back-row option, chosen ahead of Hamish Watson.

Ireland duo Tadgh Furlong and Jack Conan have retained their places in the pack, with Robbie Henshaw at inside center.

Iain Henderson started the first warm-up game vs Japan, playing the full 80 minutes at Murrayfield, before making a brief appearance off the bench versus the Lions.

The lock then captained the side in the big win over the Sharks, and played 60 minutes when the Lions faced South Africa A.

However, captain Alun Wyn Jones made a sensational recovery from injury to feature against the Stormers, and Henderson was left out for both this game, and the first official test.

Henderson's Ireland teammate Tadgh Beirne has been preferred as the lock/back row option on the bench, while Maro Itoje put in a man of the match performance from the second row in the first test.

Henderson will be in contention to feature in the final test, but it seems increasingly unlikely the Ulster captain will play a role.
