County Down swimmer Daniel Wiffen produced a sensational display in the pool to claim his second gold medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Romania.

The Magheralin man smashed the Irish record to add the 1500m Freestyle title to the 400m gold he won early in the week in Otopeni.

Leading from the outset, the 22-year-old reached the halfway stage ahead of World Record time, and although he fell a couple of seconds outside of the record by the finish, he took top spot by over 12 seconds.

His twin brother Nathan was in his first final and finished eighth.

Daniel still has arguably his strongest even, the 800m Freestyle, to come and he'll be optimistic of making it a third gold of the championships, having registered Ireland's first ever gold medal at the European Short Course with that aforementioned 400m victory.
