One of the Danske Bank Premiership’s most exciting young talents is set to leave the Irish League for the bright lights of London.

Linfield striker Paul Smyth will have a medical later today at Queens Park Rangers ahead of a big-money move.

The 19-year-old has been a star performer for the Blues for the last couple of seasons and in May picked up the Football Writers Young Player of the Year award.

Smyth is expected to sign a long-term deal at Loftus Road.

It has taken an Irish League record £150,000 to take him to the English Championship.

Smyth’s last game for Linfield was on Saturday when he starred in a 1-0 win over Ballymena.

The Blues are currently top of the table – unbeaten in four games.

QPR are 10th in the Championship.
