Rory McIlroy begins his bid for Grand Slam glory tomorrow in Augusta.

The World No 2 attempts to win the Masters – the one big tournament that has eluded him to date.

He tees off at 1.41 with Hideto Tanihara from Japan and Spain’s Jon Rahm.

McIlroy says, though, his preparation for the event could have been a little better.

“I wanted to play a heavy schedule coming into the Masters but one event in South Africa and then seven weeks off,” he said.

“Then again in that time it allowed me to work on a few things - you know when you are playing week in week out you may neglect some things.”

If McIlroy wins he will write his name into golf’s history books – becoming the first European to achieve a career grand slam.

He would then join an elite group of just five golfers who have won all four major championship events.

Meanwhile, McIlroy is involved in a pre-Masters par three event which features current stars of the game along with the champions of the past.
