Northern Ireland got their Futsal Home Nations Championships off to a poor start last night at Newry Leisure Centre – losing 6-2 to Scotland.

Connor Millar and Jack Magee, arguably the hosts’ best player on the night, grabbed the goals.

But largely this contest will be remembered for a series of squandered chances including a missed penalty.

Scotland also had their fair share of opportunities but were much more clinical in front of goal.

Indeed, they could have added to their tally with several long-range shots striking the bar – and they also missed a penalty.

Going into the game, Northern Ireland, with a number of England-based players in their ranks, felt they could have taken at least a point.

But they now face a strong Wales side later today before meeting the might of England, the current holders and favourites to lift the trophy again.

That game kicks off at 6pm
