Glentoran legend Colin Nixon has turned down the chance to return to the Oval as manager.

Instead, he has signed a new three-year deal at Ards.

Given Nixon’s close links with the Glens where he enjoyed a 20-year career, playing nearly 800 times, it seemed he was a shoe-in to replace Gary Haveron.

But last night he decided to stay as Ards’ boss.

Earlier in the month, it is understood the club had initial sounding-out talks with Rodney McAree but he chose to remain at Dungannon Swifts – putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal.

Legendary Portadown manager Ronnie McFall is currently in the Oval hot-seat but has always insisted he is an interim replacement and will be away at the end of the season.
