Rory McIlroy has won his FOURTH career Wells Fargo Championship.

The Holywood star produced a superb finish at Quail Hollow in North Carolina, to beat American Xander Schauffele by five shots - and along with the trophy, a first prize of 3.6 million dollars.

On the final day, though, McIlroy trailed Shauffele by two shots after seven holes - but a run of four birdies and two eagles saw him surge clear.

The World Number Two had previously won the tournament in 2010, 2015 and 2021.

And it was also his second successive PGA tour title - a fortnight ago he claimed the Zurich Classic along with Shane Lowry.

McIlroy told Sky Sports: "Coming into this week, at a golf course I am comfortable with, my golf swing feels more comfortable than it has done.

"Going to a venue next week where I have won, it feels like the stars are aligning a little bit. But I have a lot of golf to play and a lot of great players to try to beat.

"I am going into the next major of the year feeling really good about myself."

Next up is the US PGA Championship at Valhalla - the scene of his most recent major victory in 2014.
