McIlroy comeback continues with a fifth place finish in Ohio
Now onto Quail Hollow for the US PGA tournament
Rory McIlroy has returned to form – just in time for the US PGA Major.
The World Number Four showed plenty of glimpses of his old self on his way to finishing joint fifth in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational tournament in Ohio last night.
McIlroy believes it sets him up well for the PGA which begins on Thursday.
“I think it's been a good week, obviously wanting to play well this week but with one eye on next week,'' he said.
“I think it was a good prep week; I never want to treat this week like that because it's such a big tournament in itself, but I thought I saw a lot of good stuff to take with me to Quail Hollow.
“I felt like my wedge play got better as the week went on, my iron play got a bit better so those are the two things. If I can sharpen that up and be really good with that part of my game I feel like I have a really good chance.''
It was his first tournament with best friend Harry Diamond as his caddy and McIlroy confirmed he will be at his side again in north Carolina.
McIlroy began yesterday three shots off the pace and although he scored a superb final round of 67 – he was still nine shots behind winner Hideki Matsuyama.
