McFall extends stay at Glentoran as player legends join backroom
And Niall Currie also back in the managerial hot-seat at Carrick
Ronnie McFall has been retained as manager of Glentoran for another season.
The veteran Irish League boss had been brought into the Oval initially in a caretaker capacity after Gary Haveron’s departure.
He will be assisted by Glens legend Gary Smyth, who stepped down as boss of Championship side, Harland and Wolff Welders.
Paul Leeman who played nearly 600 times for Glentoran during an 18-year spell will also join the backroom team.
Both Smyth and Leeman have put pen to paper on three-year deals.
Kieran Harding who was assistant last season is also staying.
Speaking on Glentoran’s website, McFall said he was “only too happy” to continue as manager and that “one of the big priorities” was to “provide the best possible grounding” for Smyth Premiership level.
Chairman, Stephen Henderson, said they believed they had a new structure in place “to prepare the ground for a regime we believe can successfully work to return the club to the sustainable competitive position we all expect.”
Meanwhile, former Portadown boss, Niall Currie has been appointed Carrick Rangers’ new manager.
He said he was “proud and honoured” to have been chosen and was looking forward to “the massive challenge ahead”.
Currie takes over a side that were relegated to the Championship after losing their promotion/relegation play-off with Newry City.
