Local game on the up and up as attendances reach million milestone
Extra 5,000 fans go to matches this season alone
Attendances in the Danske Bank Premiership have now topped one million since the formation of the Northern Ireland Football League in 2013.
New figures show that 5,000 additional fans went to games this season with attendances rising for the fifth year in a row.
Managing Director Andrew Johnston said, “We are obviously delighted that local football continues to grow each year – so it’s amazing that we have had one million fans experience our league in such a short period of time!
“There has been collective effort from ourselves, clubs, partners and the local media to promote the NI Football League and supporters who have joined us in huge numbers and have been rewarded with arguably the most exciting Danske Bank Premiership season in decades”.
This year’s title race went to the last game of the season with Crusaders pipping Coleraine for the famous Gibson Cup (pictured).
