Linfield's 'bare minimum' and a special invite from Brendan Rodgers - Jamie Mulgrew reveals all ...
Blues skipper on life at Windsor Park
Last updated 29th Sep 2017
One of the Irish League’s highest-profile stars has revealed the extraordinary expectations playing for Northern Ireland’s biggest club.
Jamie Mulgrew, who skippered Linfield to a magnificent treble last season, says only the “bare minimum” of claiming a league title each year is “acceptable” at Windsor Park.
And, guesting on Cool FM’s ‘Danske Bank Premiership’ show in association with NIFL, last season’s Player of the Year, believes the Blues have still to find their best form this year.
“You can never stand still,” he says. “I think at the start of the year you strive to win everything.
“The bare minimum for us is to win the league again.”
Mulgrew (31) joined top football writers Steven Beacom and Mark McIntosh in conversation with Cool’s Pete Snodden, as ever, presenting.
He also reveals what it’s like to play under David Healy and describes the first time he entered the Linfield dressing room.
“Whenever he got the job people wondered did he have that ruthless streak,” Mulgrew says.
And he tells us about a special invitation he simply couldn’t refuse from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers after the two sides met in the Champions League.
All this – and more …
