Linfield had to work hard to break down a stubborn Institute side in an important 2-0 win in the Danske Bank Premiership.

Second half goals from Jordan Stewart and Josh Robinson made sure of the points in torrential rain at Windsor Park.

David Healy's side struggled in the first half, and it wasn't until the 34th minute that they carved out a chance. Stewart crossed from the left, with Chris Casement seeing his downward header well saved by Marty Gallagher.

Less than a minute later, the Linfield fullback rattled the crossbar will a well-struck swerving free-kick from 25 yards. 4 minutes before the break, Casement's pull back found Daniel Kearns, but he shot straight at the keeper with his first-time effort.

Shortly after the break the Blues had the ball in the net with Jimmy Callacher scoring from Niall Quinn's free kick - but it was ruled out for offside.

Institute then enjoyed good spell, with captain Dean Curry volleying narrowly wide after a quick free kick combination by Aaron Jarvis and Joseph McCready.

However, it was short lived, as Linfield took the lead in the 62nd minute.

Second after Institute cleared the ball off the line to prevent a Dean Curry own goal, Callacher's touch at edge of the box sat up for Jordan Stewart, who lashed it into the top corner from 18 yards.

Joel Cooper went close to doubling the lead when his chipped effort was cleared off the line on 67, but the goal was coming.

From the resulting Niall Quinn corner, Josh Robinson thumped home a header to grab the Blues' second goal, and put the game beyond any doubt.
