Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough confirmed that experienced defender Jonny Evans will join up with the squad ahead of the Luxembourg clash on Friday.

Baraclough revealed Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers had been in touch prior to their game at the King Power Stadium to say Evans would be taking part and asked if the defender could travel to Luxembourg.

Evans has 93 caps for his country to date, and Barraclough said he was delighted to be given the opportunity to join up with the squad again.

“He is still desperate to play for his country,” he said.

Although Evans can play on Friday, it is understood he will not be available for next Tuesday's game against Hungary.

Evans was originally not expected to play again until next month after having surgery to fix a hamstring injury picked up while playing for his club in December.
