Northern Ireland's biggest sporting spectacle - the North West 200 - is off and running.

And if the practice sessions yesterday (Wednesday) are anything to go by, the tens of thousands of fans who have flocked to the north coast, will be in for a treat.

In the Superbike class, Glenn Irwin is the rider to beat.

The Carrickfergus man, who has won the event's last eight successive Superbike races, was dominant in practice - dipping under the course lap record in a time of 4:18:553 with an average speed of 124.895mph.

He finished ahead of Davey Todd, who was first home in the Superstocks, and Michael Dunlop.
