T20 World Cup: Ireland fall to heavy defeat in opener with India

Ireland have suffered an eight-wicket defeat to India in the opening group game of their T20 World Cup campaign.

They struggled on a tricky surface and could only manage 96 runs.

Afterwards, Belfast's Paul Stirling who skippered the side, was hopeful they could turn things around in their next game.

They take on Canada tomorrow (Friday) on the same ground - Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island.

"I think we have got such a big game or two coming up," he said. "Any time out in the middle seeing what this pitch is going to do - it's crucial for us.

"We'll take a lot of information in and hopefully we'll give it a better run come Friday."
