Michael Conlan is expecting a “special” night in Belfast as he prepares to top the bill in his home town.

The 26-year-old ex-World Amateur champion and Olympic medallist, will be fighting there for the first time since 2010 – but this time as an unbeaten professional.

It will be an eighth contest for Conlan, who has already fought in the USA and Australia – winning every bout.

On Saturday he takes on the experienced Brazilian Adeilson Dos Santos at the SSE Arena.

During a public workout yesterday at Belfast City Hall, Conlan told Downtown & Cool FM that it would be a night to remember.

“To be here in Belfast is a huge honour to be boxing here and to be headlining is a very special feeling and something I always wanted to do during my career,” he said.

“I didn’t know it would be my first fight back in Belfast I would be headlining so it is a bit special.”

Conlan said Dos Santos was tough but he was confident of a win.

“We have worked on a game plan with the coaches and we know what we are going to do – we have worked at a lot of things in the gym,” he said.

“I feel ready for him – he’s decent, he looked good on the pads there so I have just got to be smart.”
