GOLF: Maguire amongst the front runners at World Invitational

Ireland's Leona Maguire lies a shot off the lead heading into Round 2 of the ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle and Massereene.

An opening round of 5 under par 68 at Galgorm Castle saw Maguire level with England's Georgia Hall and just behind tournament leader, American's Amanda Doherty. The trio ar all currently on the course at Massereene this morning.

The tournament will cut down to the top 60 before the final two rounds at Galgorm Castle over Saturday and Sunday.

In the men's event, Scotland's Ewen Ferguson fired a superb course record 61 at Galgorm to end the opening day on 9 under par, three clear of Spain's Borja Virton, with England's Richard Bland also in the hunt.

Tom McKibbin is the leading Northern Irish hopeful following an opening 1 under par 69, while in the Ladies tournament, Olivia Mehaffey finished 3 over after Round 1 and 2019 winner Stephanie Meadow is a shot further back.
