Glentoran beat Coleraine 3-2 in a penalty shootout to claim a place in the last 8 of the League Cup, in which they'll host Crusaders.

The opening 90 minutes at the Oval had ended 2-2 after the Bannsiders scored a late equaliser, with both sides exchanging a goal in extra time.

Curtis Allen, Chris Gallagher and Joe Crowe scored the decisive penalties as the Glens won on spot kicks.

It was Coleraine who took the lead in the first half of the 90 when Josh Carson's 21st minute free kick was whipped into the Glentoran box from wide on the right.

His cross evaded everyone and nestled into the corner of the goal with the Glens appealing for an offside flag that never came.

However, just 2 minutes later, the Glens were back in it as John Herron's free kick from 20 yards out took a huge deflection off the wall to wrong-foot Chris Johns and find the net.

In the 62nd minute, the Glens took the lead for the first time as Nathan Kerr's cross from deep was met by Curtis Allen who flicked a header beyond Johns to make it 2-1.

With 5 minutes of the 90 left to play, a long throw from the Bannsiders found Jamie McGonigle who stabbed home an equaliser at the back post, although he appeared to be in an offside position.

The Bannsiders were on the right side of another contentious refereeing decision in the 106th minute when James Ferrin was penalised for being judged to have blocked a Bradley shot with his arm - despite standing a yard away from the striker.

McGonigle was again the beneficiary, blasting the resulting penalty past Morris.

Glentoran then found a way back into the game with 110 minutes played. Ross Redman did well to work himself into space down the left and drive a cross towards Allen, who flicked in the equaliser from close range.

The goal forced the shootout, and it was Allen, Gallagher and Crowe who found the net to secure a deserved win.
