Glenavon scored 4 second half goals as they overpowered 10-man Ballymena at Mourneview Park on Friday night.

The visitors had to play the second period at a loss after captain Andrew Burns was sent off for hacking down Mark Sykes in the dying seconds of the first half.

Glenavon soon made the most of their advantage and the match was settled by second half goals from Aaron Harmon, Josh Daniels, Stephen Murray and Andrew Hall.

The first half was something of a let down, and it wasn't until ten minutes before the break that Ballymena created the first chance of the evening.

David Jeffrey's side had an effort cleared off the line following a James Knowles corner after Ryan Mayse poked the ball through to Matthew Shevlin, and his glancing header was cleared off the line by Andrew Mitchell.

With seconds to go before the half-time whistle, Glenavon's Mark Sykes drove towards the Ballymena box before being hit with a crashing, diving tackle by Andrew Burns, for which the visiting captain saw red.

With 58 on the clock, Glenavon got the breakthrough as Rhys Marshall collected a smart pass from Sykes before pulling the ball back for Harmon, who planted it beyond Glendenning.

With his first touch after coming off the bench, Dylan King launched a 67th minute free kick into the Ballymena box where it was met by the head of Daniels, who looped in a back-post header to make it 2-0.

9 minutes later, Daniels worked hard to keep the ball in play before chipping a cross back into Murray who did well to control the high ball, turn his man, and then volley past Glendinning.

Daniels then completed a man of the match performance as his superb assist saw Andrew Hall left with an 84th minute tap-in to complete the scoring.
