Giants knock Cardiff for six to win Challenge Cup in Wales

The Stena Line Belfast Giants defeated the Cardiff Devils 6-3 to lift the Challenge Cup for the second time in the organisation’s history. Goals from Benedict, Kurtz, Murphy and Ferland double plus an impressive Jackson Whistle in net gave the Giants a famous victory.
The Giants traveling fans made Ice Arena Wales a neutral venue with their support all game long and they witnessed a famous night in the organisation’s history as the Giants won their ninth major championship.
Devils Open Challenge Cup Final Scoring
Layne Ulmer opened the Cup Final scoring when he finished off a rebound in front of the Giants net at 2:46, assisted by Sean Bentivoglio.
Giants Fight Back In Cardiff
The Giants equalised at 24:08 when Brandon Benedict fired low past Ben Bowns, assisted by Steve Saviano.
The Devils regained the lead once again at 25:03 thanks to a Gleason Fournier powerplay strike, assisted by Joey Martin.
John Kurtz grabbed another Giants equaliser when he finished off a sweeping move, assisted by Steve Saviano and Matt Towe at 29:57.
The Giants took the lead for the first time in the final at 35:34 when Jonathan Ferland turned and fired an unstoppable wrist shot high into the Devils net.
Impressive Giants Complete Cup Final Win
Matt Towe extended the Giants lead at 44:32, redirecting a Steve Saviano pass to give the visitors a two goal lead.
Darcy Murphy’s awesome unassisted strike at 52:04 right in front of the travelling Giants fans gave the Belfast side a 5-2 advantage.
Jake Morrissette’s powerplay strike at 55:16, assisted by Joey Haddad and Gleason Fourier, gave the Devils late hope.
However Jonathan Ferland scored into the empty Cardiff net at 56:40, assisted by Steve Saviano and John Kurtz, to seal an impressive victory
