Doubles from Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway, plus an Ella Toone strike essentially put paid to Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

It was a dominant display from the away side in front of over 15,000 people at Windsor Park - the largest attendance for a women's football match in Northern Ireland.

The hosts were only one behind at the break, but England simply stepped it up a gear and could have scored more than the five they did on the night

Kenny Shiels made two changes to the starting line-up from the one that lost 3-1 in Austria on Friday.

Kelsie Burrows came in at right-back for Rebecca Holloway, while Joely Andrews - Northern Ireland's sole goalscorer in the previous match - earned a start in midfield, with Chloe McCarron dropping to the bench.

They were coming up against an England side who had hit a whopping 63 goals in just 7 matches in this World Cup qualifying campaign, under the stewardship of Sarina Wiegman. They had also yet to concede a single goal.

As was to be expected, England dominated possession and created plenty of early chances.

However, it took until 25 minutes in for them to finally breakthrough a stubborn Northern Ireland defence.

After Ellen White had headed wide and Joely Andrews excellently cleafed Keira Walsh's goalbound effort off the line, White then hit the net, only to be deemed offside.

Ella Toone and Lucy Bronze failed to hit the target with further England opportunities before they did finally get the goal their dominance deserved.

But - the finish was somewhat fortunate, as Lauren Hemp's mishit effort from close range loops up over Burns and in.

Hemp then nodded over after Bronze stood the ball up the back post four minutes before the break as Northern Ireland would have reasonably happy to go in at half-time just the goal down.

But two goals in a nine-minute spell before the hour put Sarina Wiegman's side well in control.

Northern Ireland's Sarah McFadden gets in front of England's Ellen White at Windsor Park.

Bronze bustled her way in to tee up Toone for the second 51 before Hemp got her second of the game, rounding Jackie Burns to make it 3-0 with half an hour still to play

In between times, Northern Ireland had their first effort of the night straight after England scored their second goal.

Lauren Wade did well to swivel and fire in a 20-yard shot, with England keeper Mary Earps down smartly to her left to push it away

As Northern Ireland tired slightly, the visitors seized the opportunity to grab more goals and they did just, courtesy of a Georgia Stanway brace to make it 5-0.
