European Short Course swimming championships: Wiffen bags first-ever Gold for Ireland
The 22-year-old from Magheralin in Co Down won the 400-metre freestyle
County Down swimmer Daniel Wiffen has picked up Team Ireland's first-ever Gold medal at the European Short Course championships in Romania.
The 22-year-old from the village of Magheralin won the 400-metre freestyle race in a time of three minutes 35.47 seconds.
That was nearly three seconds off his Irish record.
And he did it in some style beating five of the world's top swimmers this year in the process.
