Commonwealth Games: O'Connor off and running in heptathlon

Team Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor is second in the standings after Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games heptathlon.

The 21-year-old Newry athlete produced two personal best times in both the 100m hurdles and 200m sprint events coupled with very good performances in both the high jump and shot putt.

Going into Day 2 today (Wednesday) O'Connor sits 109 points behind favourite and defending champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

Elsewhere, three of Team NI's swimmers in final action tonight.

First up, County Down's Bethany Firth competes in the final of the 200m freestyle S-14.

Just over half an hour later, Danielle Hill goes in the 50m backstroke final.

And then it's Daniel Wiffen's turn, competing in the men's 1500m freestyle final.

And in boxing, Belfast's Aidan Walsh is into the quarter finals of the light middleweight contest.
