Carrick Rangers boss Stuart King says new signing Luke McCullough turned down 'strong offers' from other clubs to move to Taylors Avenue.

The 30-year-old former Northern Ireland international centre-back has pennded a three-year deal with the club after four seasons at Glentoran.

“I am so happy to add Luke to our squad," said King.

"He's a full international whose leadership and technical ability will be a massive asset to us and is yet another signing that strengthens our team.

"I must give credit to my board for their help with this transfer and to Luke who chose Carrick despite strong offers from other clubs.”

As a teenager McCullough made the move from Dungannon Swifts to Manchester United, going on to captain their Academy side before enjoying a period on loan at Cheltenham Town.

He then moved to Doncaster Rovers where he spent six years and made over 100 appearances before concluding his time in England with two seasons at Tranmere Rovers.

He picked up six senior caps for Northern Ireland before returning home to make 117 appearances across four seasons for Glentoran.

“I am delighted to be here,” said Luke McCullough.

“It’s an exciting time following a seventh place finish last season and, after meeting up with Stuart and Peter (Clarke, Chairman), it's clear the club is looking to kick on again.

"I'm excited to come and be a part of it.”
