Belfast's Aidan Walsh missed out on his first opportunity to make this Summer's Olympics earlier.

Walsh, who won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Games was beaten 4-1 by Jordan's Zeyad Eashash in the 71kg division in Bangkok this morning.

It was an incident-packed five rounds for Walsh, who was deducted points by the referee for holding on two occasions.

However, he still has a chance of booking his seat on the plane to Paris, due to the amount of place available in his light-middleweight division. With the winner of the section, runner and both losing semi-finalists qualifying, there is still a fifth spot up for grabs.

That means Walsh will be involved in a box-off for that final berth.

However, Amy Broadhurst's switch from Ireland to Team GB in a bid to make the Games has ended after she lost her quarter-final prior to Walsh's bout.

The Dundalk woman, who has also boxed out of St Bronagh's in Rostrevor, County Down, lost 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the 60kg division to Korea's Yenjo Oh.

With a limited amount of places available in her section, the 2022 World, European and Commonwealth gold medallist, there is no second chance.
