Belfast Giants 7-2 Coventry Blaze

Darcy Murphy scored a second period hat-trick as the Belfast Giants beat Coventry Blaze 7-2 in the 2nd game of their weekend double header.

The first period passed by largely without incident, and neither team could make the breakthrough.

It was Darcy Murphy who opened the scoring in the second period from close range at 24:51.

Brandon Benedict quickly made it 2 at 25:02, slamming a shot home after fine work by Ferland.

Blaze hit back through Courchaine who scored from the angle at 28:39.

Shorthanded, the Giants scored again as Murphy doubled his tally at 37:23, finding the net on the breakaway.

The visitors scored what would prove to be their final goal of the night, as Alex Miner-Barron narrowed the deficit to a single goal at 38:31.

At 39:20 Darcy Murphy completed his hattrick to extend the Giants lead, and end the second period ended 4-2.

A quickfire double early in the third period put the Giants firmly in control.

Colin Shields scored at 47:13, and it was quickly followed up by Spiro Goulakos at 48:42.

Jim Vandermeer scored the 7th goal at 58:58 to round off a comprehensive win for the Giants
